being way more familiar with the wuxia genre than the xianxia genre is so funny because a wuxia story will be like chopping your balls off and sitting in a cave for fifty years makes you better at punching people and i’m like oh yeah absolutely, everybody knows that, it’s just common sense. and then a xianxia story will be like holding a magic rock makes your magic better, and i’m like how the fuck was i supposed to know that??? i’m not a rockologist???

Here, have another excerpt from the other SMP fic I'm working on:
~~~~~
So yes, the encounter with Flint Cragley was a much-needed palette cleanser after all of that.
At least for the first five minutes.
Fifteen minutes into the complete recounting of the Daring Adventures of Flint Cragley - explorer, hero, scholar, entomologist, rockologist, diplomat, zoologist, celebrity, philanthropist, and tapioca pudding connoisseur, Bowser had finally lost his patience and blown a stream of fire over the gabbing Cragnon’s head, leaving a twin trail of scorch marks up the brim of his ivory adventurer’s helmet.
Rock allergies, the Koopa King had explained, deadpan.
#hello there#continuation of expiate#gods i wish i had 5 free days in a row to just write the words are FLOWING today#alas#anyway this story is going to get pretty angsty so i needed to inject some humor#and flint cragley is one of those characters - much like hondo ohnaka - that i can't possibly contrive an angsty backstory for#so comedic relief it is!#writing#the eternal struggle
MY SUCCUBUN IS HERE AND APPROVED!!! After a lot of grinding, I got my myo slot and I mean. Look at them. I love them so much. Holy shidt. PS: If you knew me during my dragon days, you'll recognize this character.
Noire (Accepts the nickname "Izzy") He/They Transmasc 25
Noire is a reserved fellow who enjoys spending his time examining the "skies" of Burrowgatory and it's various patterns of light from the crystals and flora. He can be found with a telescope on the rooftop of his apartment most nights, taking notes of debatable competence and use. He calls himself an astrologist, but jokes that he's more of a "rockologist" since there are no real stars down here. Outside of his main hobby, he enjoys long walks alone with his Ryuudra and a good book. Working at a bookstore gives him a bit of an advantage when it comes to scoring good finds, so he's definitely the bun to ask if you need something reserved or set aside! He has what seems to be a grumpy expression on his face as a default, but he's not upset, he just looks like that. He may not be overly emotional and friendly, but he'll do right by you if you do right by him. Just don't ask him to pay for anything, he has his own finances and needs to worry about, thank you very much! He prefers to spend most of his time alone at home, but he has much to share if you are willing to hear him ramble on his cosmic theories. He belives that there is something more beyond everything that we know, but he has no way to prove that. He does not mind, for he continues to search for the answers engraved in the gold he frequently sees in his dreams.
Can't say I'm much of a pooch expert either, I just know the few we had on the ranch. Darn good girls, they were. Weren't no purebreds though, just whatever my mamas found at the shelter. And then me-- who they thought-- but that ain't-- You a [.....] rockologist?-- geologist?
Ah no, more like... ramblin? Talkin' too much? The shop was back down in Arizona, went there on a trip to see the grand canyon! That's a hella mess of good rocks, bet you probably know all about it. I just thought it was downright neat. I got a piece of Serpentine that was cut to look like a coiled rattler, got a few shards of Obsidian, even one that's been made into a arrowhead necklace. I ain't ever fired an arrow, not once, but it looks cool, right? Also got a few geodes. My ma always sends one every year on my birthday, to break open on my next. I'm hopin for some amethyst.
Sure I am, it's just [....] the vernacular or whatever. All different up here. Sorry for confusin' you so much, but thanks for being a good listener!
Yeah! Newfoundland and Labrador form the most easterly province of Canada. I don't know if the dogs come from there. I don't really know much about dogs, I just know about rocks.
Toddlin? You're not a toddler, are you? Toddlers are, like, babies. Where is the roadside shop? How much do they charge for rocks? [user enjoys the photo.] Do you have any other rocks?
Dude, I think you're not speaking English.
So I'm listening to a YouTube video about the competitive viability of Rhydon when the narrator describes Rhydon attacking as "250 lbs of body slam." This is Rhydon.
6 foot 3 inches of stone-armor covered dinosaur. 250 lbs? I'm almost 6 and half feet tall and that's about what I weigh, and the good lord didn't see fit to bless me with rock plating and a drill that can apparently knock over buildings.
Reading its description, it actually weighs 264 lbs. Its hide permits to hang out in magma and withstand temps of over 3600 degrees Fahrenheit. Sick. No rocks I could find can withstand that level of direct heat, but the temperature of magma caps out at around 2400 degrees Fahrenheit. My understanding is that not just heat, but pressure is required to melt stone, so I will generously say that Rhydon isn't being compressed and that the resulting figure of 3600 degree Fahrenheit is reasonable for his dino-rock skin.
With that said, a common stone with among the highest melting points is granite. Using that, I roughly calculated what the hide of Rhydon would weigh using a hollow column of granite of roughly Rhydon's dimensions would weigh.
Assuming Rhydon is completely hollow, devoid of organs and bones, with a compressed granite hide 2 feet thick it should weigh closer to 6100 lbs. Rock specialists and magma enthusiasts please correct me, because I can only assume that for Rhydon to weigh 264 lbs while having a rock hide it would need to be covered in a layer of granite .0366 inches thick and the remaining 7 pounds would be dedicated to organs.
Damp, Heat, Icy, and Smooth Rock (May as well lump them all together considering they do the same thing just in a different flavor)
“Now I’m not any kind of rockologist, so I can’t get into the specifics on how this interaction works, but from what I can gather: the energy generated by the specific techniques Sunny Day, Hail, what have you, are enhanced and amplified by these special minerals. You might talk to Steven Stone about more details, if your curiosity demands it.”
I visited a volcanic park...
What resulted was a combination of dumb things my relatives and I said that I found both funny in general and also pretty accurate quotes for Maxie and Team Magma. Here are some of the best ones:
"You can trust me, I'm a rock scientist. A rockologist for short."
"Behold our latest invention, edible lava!"
"I bathe in myself in magma everyday! How else do you think I get such nice skin?"
"We need to present a sacrifice to the volcano god... Any volunteers?"
"If I could, I would swim in magma"
"Why you'll be swimming in molten rock which will slow you down horribly and your skin will melt off your bones."
"Yeah, but if you could you would do it right?"
"... Yeah."
I’m not a water-stuck-in-rockologist, but I’d imagine there can’t really be anything living in there (like a deadly virus) because it’s had nothing to feed on this whole time, yeah?
Those rocks with water you just rebloged. Is it possible they contain long extinct virus like the like what's believed to be frozen in the poles?
probably not but they might contain some pretty gnarly mineral toxins like heavy metals so definitely still don't drink one
I'm not an actor. I am a rockologist, but I am a part time comedian. Just like you are a changling and a part time exile
“What you are is a full-time idiot. Go back to eating rocks or whatever it is you do and let the Queen take care of business.”
